Siena Women's Soccer produced an offensive explosion – and
Cate Burns set yet another program record for a third straight match – as the Saints rolled Rider 6-0 in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
Siena (6-1-1, 2-0) dominated the middle of the match to the tune of all six scores coming in a span of just 36:41 in the program's first six-goal effort since the 2024 conference opener vs. Iona. The Saints had entered play having totaled just nine goals over their first seven matches this season.
Meanwhile Burns, who two matches ago set the program record for consecutive clean sheets and who last time out broke the Siena benchmark for consecutive shutout minutes, achieved another major milestone. The junior goalkeeper secured a new program record with her 22
nd consecutive shutout, surpassing Taylor Dorado (2016-19). Burns made three saves to record her NCAA-leading seventh shutout – each of which have come consecutively – while building her school-record shutout streak to an even 630 straight minutes.
But the offense secured top billing on an afternoon where 11 different players registered at least one point. The Saints dished out nine assists as part of a 21-point effort to run their unbeaten streak to seven straight (6-0-1). Siena has shutout the opposition by a 14-0 margin during the program's longest unbeaten stretch since opening the Spring 2021 COVID MAAC Championship season 6-0-2.
Abby Daly broke the scoring seal in the 38
th minute for the Saints, before a second half deluge quickly put things out of reach. Siena erupted for five second half scores spanning just 24:19, featuring goals from
Catherine Rogers (50', 61'),
Anna Swyers (53'),
Lauren Marjanski (74'), and the first career score from sophomore
Maddy Hopeck (75').
Rogers led the way with four points punctuated by her fourth collegiate brace, two of which have come over the past three matches. The junior reached a milestone now with 20 career goals to move into the top-10 all-time in program history.
Swyers tacked on an assist for a three-point afternoon, while
Megan Goyette and
Tiana Mainella each added a pair of assists apiece for the Saints which achieved the program's milestone 150
th all-time conference regular season victory.
Siena peppered the Rider (1-3-1, 0-2) goal with a season-high 22 shots, seven of which were saved by Ashley Moore.
Meanwhile, the Saints defense allowed just eight total shots to increase the program record shutout streaks to seven straight matches and 630:57 overall. Siena, which entered play tied for the national lead in shutouts, has now posted clean sheets in 12 of their past 14 matches dating back to last season.
The Saints ride a wave of momentum into a showdown with reigning champion and Metro Conference preseason favorite Fairfield which visits Hickey Field next Saturday at 1 p.m.
