Cate Burns established a new program record, Siena Women's Soccer equaled a team benchmark, and
Catherine Rogers moved into the top-10 on the all-time scoring list as the Saints secured a statement 4-0 score at Le Moyne to put a bow on the most successful non-conference campaign in 16 years.
The reigning Metro Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Burns made four saves while setting a new Siena (4-1-1) record by posting her fifth consecutive individual shutout, breaking the previous benchmark she held with a trio of predecessors between the pipes. The junior also reached a milestone with her 20
th collegiate shutout, just one off the all-time program record.
The clean sheet was also the fifth straight for the Saints defense, matching the program record set just last fall. Siena has now recorded shutouts in 10 of its last 12 matches dating back to last season.
Rogers recorded her third collegiate brace – two of which have now come on Ted Grant Field – to break into the top-10 on the Saints all-time career scoring list. The junior currently stands ninth all-time in program history with 51 career points.
The Saints scored four times in just under 40 minutes punctuated by backbreaking Rogers scores bridging the halves. Rogers intercepted a clearing attempt from the keeper and beat her to open the scoring in the 38
th minute, before finishing a feed from
Briana Neary to double the advantage just over five minutes into the second stanza.
Lily Farrell added an insurance goal from
Lindsey Harrington in the 68
th minute and junior
Lauren Marjanski rocketed home her first collegiate score to cap the scoring for Siena, which wrapped its best non-conference record since finishing a perfect 9-0 during the 2010 MAAC Championship season.
The Saints registered season-highs in both shots and corner kicks, holding 19-6 and 8-1 margins, respectively.
The Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week Mikayla McPheron made eight saves for Le Moyne (1-6) which is now winless spanning its last 14 contests on Ted Grant Field (0-12-2). Siena was the fifth Metro Conference opponent in the first seven matches to open the season for the Dolphins.
The Saints will soar into their Metro Conference opener on a five-match unbeaten streak (4-0-1) when Siena kicks off the real season against Manhattan Saturday at 1 p.m. on Hickey Field.
