LOUDONVILLE, NY — Siena Men's Soccer battled through steady rain for 90 minutes Saturday afternoon at Hickey Field, playing Manhattan to a 1-1 draw in a physical conference matchup.
The Saints rallied late, with
Tito Somuyiwa scoring his first career goal at 83:09 to bring Siena level.
Campbell Stalker and
Benjamin Fogarty each recorded an assist on the equalizer.
Siena moves to 2-5-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play, while Manhattan is now 2-4-1 overall and 0-0-1 in conference action.
Somuyiwa's goal came on his lone shot of the afternoon, while Stalker and Fogarty each finished with an assist.
Bennet Glinder made three saves across all 90 minutes in goal for the Saints.
Playing through the steady rain from the opening whistle, Siena created several opportunities in the opening half. The Saints recorded five shots and six corner kicks before halftime, while Glinder made an early save in the opening minute to keep Manhattan off the board.
Siena's first-half chances included attempts from
Oscar Dean and
Lucas Almeida before
Antonio Vicente put a shot on frame that was saved in the 12th minute. The Saints continued to pressure as
Ben Biton added a shot and Siena earned three corners between the 23rd and 31st minutes.
Lee Mara added another attempt late in the half, but neither side could break through before the halftime whistle.
The physicality continued into the second half as both teams battled through the wet conditions. Siena opened the period with chances from
Ivan Struk and
Bruno Osaro before generating three more corner kicks between the 64th and 69th minutes.
Manhattan broke through at 68:17 when Nicolo Donadio found the back of the net, giving the Jaspers a 1-0 advantage.
The Saints continued to push for an equalizer, with Fogarty adding a shot and Siena earning another corner before finally finding the breakthrough late in the match.
At 83:09, Somuyiwa finished a chance set up by Stalker and Fogarty to level the match at 1-1 and give the freshman his first collegiate goal.
Siena had to withstand one final Manhattan push in the closing seconds. Glinder came up with back-to-back saves on Max Asplin-Rowley to preserve the draw and secure a point for the Saints.
With Saturday's result, Siena has now earned a point in seven consecutive meetings with Manhattan, posting a 4-0-3 record during that stretch.
Siena returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 30, traveling to Niagara Falls, NY, to take on Niagara at 4 p.m. at Niagara Field.
