Lucas Almeida scores his fourth goal of the season as Saints battle Great Danes in Albany

Siena Men's Soccer fell to UAlbany, 2-1, Tuesday evening at Casey Stadium in Albany, NY. The Saints battled throughout and had several opportunities down the stretch, but the Great Danes held on for the victory.
 
Siena moves to 1-3-1 overall, while UAlbany improves to 3-1-0.
 
The Saints kept UAlbany off the scoreboard for more than 43 minutes before Ivar Orri Gissurarson put the Great Danes ahead at 43:38, with Luca Clausse and Yuta Kimata providing assists. Siena entered halftime trailing 1-0.
 
UAlbany doubled its advantage at 52:42, but Siena responded just 35 seconds later. Lucas Almeida converted a penalty kick at 53:17 to cut the deficit to 2-1. The goal marked Almeida's fourth of the season and continued his strong start to the campaign.
 
Siena continued to pressure the Great Danes in search of the equalizer. The Saints earned a corner in the 61st minute before Ben Biton put a shot on frame that was saved by UAlbany goalkeeper Alexander Genz. Siena generated additional chances late, including shots from Lucas Toennessen Soeraas, Campbell Stalker, and Almeida, whose attempt in the 89th minute was also turned aside.
 
The Saints also received a strong performance from goalkeeper Bennet Glinder, who played all 90 minutes and made three saves.
 
The final seven minutes were particularly physical, with the teams combining for eight fouls and multiple cards from 82:49 through the final whistle. Siena was unable to find the equalizer, falling by a 2-1 final.
 
Siena returns home Tuesday, Sept. 15, hosting LIU at 4 p.m. at Hickey Field in Loudonville.
