A record 85 Siena College student athletes were recognized on the 2003-2004 MAAC Honor Roll according to a release sent out by the conference office this morning. The total smashed the previous high of 73 student-athletes set last year.
"It's testament to the hard work Siena student-athletes put into their studies that the College is so well represented on this list," Athletic Academic Advisor Nellie Laier said. "Siena prides itself in recruiting and developing the complete individual and the student-athletes have led the way recently in this regard."
To be eligible for the MAAC Honor Roll, an athlete must hold a 3.20 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and be in his or her second year of athletic eligibility. The Honor Roll is open to both full-time and associate members of the MAAC, with athletes represented in each of the 25 sports the conference sponsors.
Women's soccer led the way with 12 student athletes recognized, while the football team checked in second with 10 student athletes on the list.
