The Siena athletic department announced the hiring of James Mathews to the position assistant athletic director for external affairs. Athletic Director John D'Argenio made the announcement today.
Mathews comes to Loudonville after spending the last four years at USA Basketball. As an assistant director at USA Basketball, Mathews duties ranged from coordinating team logistics to serving as the company's laison with the players and staff.
A1996 graduate of Providence College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies, Mathews first obtained employment with Craigville Sports Associates where he worked as an administrative assistant. In that capacity he assisted in the marketing, licensing and event planning for the Mass Mutual Ugame (The University of Connecticut versus the University of Massachusetts men's basketball teams).
As assistant athletic director for external affairs, Mathews will oversee the athletic department's development efforts. Among other duties, he will coordinate Saints Alive!-the department's booster club-scheduling various events and fundraisers.
