Ground Breaking

Ground Breaking

Oct. 3, 2002

Siena Athletics, through the aid and support of many donors, has broken ground on an addition to the Marcelle Athletic Complex as well as a renovation to the Men's and Women's Basketball Team Rooms. Callanan Field House, as it is named, is scheduled to open and be operational by mid-October.

The new 6,500 square foot facility will house four sports (Baseball, Softball, Men's Soccer and Women's Soccer) along with a state of the art athletic video room. The teams will use the space year round and the theater style video room will have the capability of housing up to 50 student athletes.

Since the Marcelle Athletic Complex's construction, Siena Athletics has grown a great deal, putting a premium on team space. The idea of expanding has been in the works for some time when the Athletic Department and College decided to make the facility a reality.

Athletic Director John D'Argenio, along with Siena's office of Institutional Advancement, is spearheading the funding campaign. "This is an exciting project that in some way will impact all our student athletes", said D'Argenio. "We have had a number of quality people step up to be part of this project which shows you the strength of our support system." D'Argenio points to this project as another way in which Siena Athletics continues to help offer superior services to Siena's student-athletes.

The entire cost of the facility will be just under one million dollars. The college has committed a portion to the project and athletics is raising the remaining dollars. There are still ways to become part of this undertaking. Naming opportunities are available as well as bronzed paws.
