Loudonville, NY - Siena Athletics is pleased to announce that it has named the main road leading to the Marcelle Athletic Complex (off Spring Street Rd.) "Turchi Road" in honor of Ballston Spa residents Gino and Whilma Turchi, long time friends of the college.
Gino Turchi, who designed and built the Northway Heights Golf Course ( now named Eagle Crest , Clifton Park) first became involved with Siena as a supporter of the college's men's and women's golf teams.
The Turchi's established a charitable remainder trust that will underwrite golf scholarships at Siena. In addition, they made a naming gift (Turchi Audio Visual Room) to the Callanan Fieldhouse, the latest addition to the Marcelle Athletic Complex.
The couple's association with Siena has not been confined to golf. Over the years, they have become "part of the Siena family" and are regular attendees at basketball, baseball and softball games, and other events.
At an unveiling ceremony for Turchi Road, John D'Argenio, Siena's director of athletics, said "Everyone affiliated with Siena athletics knows and loves Gino and Willie. They have an infectious enthusiasm and positive outlook that mirrors the way an athlete or team approaches competition."
Fr. Kevin Mackin, OFM, the president of Siena College, noted that "Siena is proud of our friendship with the Turchis, and pleased that they have chosen to adopt Siena as 'their college.' The naming of "Turchi Road" is an expression of that friendship and the way everyone at Siena feels about Gino and Willie."
