LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -The Siena College athletic department has released its November and December recipients of the Leo Dufort Student Athletes of the Month Award. Senior golfer Shane McMahon (Niskayuna, N.Y./ Niskayuna) and sophomore cross country runners, Michelle and Kim Milton (Webster, N.Y./Webster) were the November recipients. The honorees for the month of December are junior Mary McKissack (Detroit, Mich./ Communications and Arts) from the women's basketball team, and senior Andy Cavo (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford Central) from the men's basketball squad.
"The success enjoyed by these student athletes is a tribute to their hard work in the classroom and on the playing fields. Their natural competitive spirit visibly projects itself onto their academic undertakings," said Director of Athletics, John D'Argenio. "These student-athletes are walking examples of the high standards upheld by the Siena athletic-academic community, and we are very proud of their outstanding efforts."
McMahon, the lone senior on the golf squad is a finance major who touts a noteworthy 3.81 GPA. In late October at the UMBC Tournament, which concluded the Saints' fall season, McMahon shot a 161 in the two-round tourney to help Siena nab a fourth place finish.
Sophomore sister sensation, Michelle and Kim Milton have been tearing up the cross country courses this fall while boasting twin GPA's of 3.41. Michelle and twin sister Kim are computer science majors. The saintly sister act, both appeared on the 2001 First Team All MAAC roster after posting several top-5 finishes in the fall.
McKissack, a junior guard and tri-captian of the women's basketball team is a business major whose enjoying a solid semester in the classroom. On Sunday, McKissack led the Saints over Iona with a career-high 28 points in the victory. McKissack also made her first five three-point attempts en route to 19 first-half points.
Cavo, a senior forward on the men's basketball team, sports an impressive 3.41 GPA while majoring in economics and minoring in spanish. Against Niagara this Saturday, Cavo chipped in 10 points to the 77-65 Green and Gold victory. He leads the Saints with a 46% success rate from beyond the three-point arc.
The Leo Dufort student-athlete of the month award is presented nine times annually to Siena athletes who excel on the playing fields and in the classroom. Past recipients this year were: September-Sarah Watkins (Volleyball), Patrick Wren (Men's Soccer) and October-Megan Umstatter (Women's Soccer), Ryan Hungershafer (Football).
