VAN COTT_ALEX COACH

Alex Van Cott

Alex Van Cott was named the Siena Men’s and Women’s Tennis Head Coach in August 2024.

“We are excited to welcome Alex to the Siena community as our new head tennis coach,” said D’Argenio. “Alex brings a wealth of experience in player development, having successfully trained junior players to achieve top national and international rankings. His passion for the game, combined with his experience as both a coach and a high-level player, make him an exceptional fit for our program. We are confident that our tennis teams will thrive under his leadership and continue to embody the excellence that Siena stands for."

Since 2018, the Unadilla, NY native has served as the Head Tennis Professional at Saratoga Regional YMCA, where he has privately coached numerous collegiate tennis players. There, Van Cott created and implemented a U-10 Tournament level program, created and coached the Junior Team Tennis team to the United States Tennis Association Nationals, and created and directed a summer camp program with 150 players per summer.

“I would like to thank Siena College for the great opportunity to lead the men’s and women’s tennis programs,” said Van Cott. “We will strive to operate at the highest level immediately. We look forward to the challenge of creating a program that everyone associated with Siena Athletics can be proud of.”

As the owner of his own LLC since January 2023, VC Tennis, Van Cott conducts private coaching and travels to top-ranked US Juniors matches. He assists in creating training and tournament schedules for players, along with traveling and running practices for players competing in United States Tennis Association L1 events. Of note, he traveled with and ran practices for a player competing in the Les Petit As Tournament in Tarbes, France, for the top 14U players in the world.

From 2016-18, Van Cott was the Master Tennis Professional at Sportime in nearby Schenectady, teaching private lessons to top-ranked junior players. There, he created and directed a program for members to get more match-play and experience, as well as assist in creating and managing summer camps. He also spent time as an assistant coach for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's men’s tennis team.

Van Cott competed in International Tennis Federation Futures Events as well as an Association of Tennis Professionals Challenger Event. During his four-year career at Tulane University, he reached a program high team NCAA Division I ranking of 21 while playing 2-6 singles and 2-3 doubles positions.

As a prep player, Van Cotted was ranked No. 1 in the Eastern Section for boys 18s. He also ranked 22nd for prospects by tennisrecruiting.net and was a blue-chip recruit prior to college.
