Mandy Ferro

Mandy Ferro

Former Siena Softball standout Mandy Ferro enters her second season as the team's volunteer assistant coach in 2020.

Ferro primarily works with the team’s outfielders and hitters, focusing on short game offensive development.

“We’re really excited to have Mandy join our staff,” Head Coach Bill Lajeunesse said upon Ferro's hiring. “She was an exceptional player in her four-year career as a Saint, as well that her skill set and coaching experience that she’s had in the past few years will be a major asset to our program.”

Her first season at the helm saw the Saints place top-3 in the MAAC for the third straight year and pick up an opening-round win in the MAAC Tournament for the first time ever. Ferro assisted in the development of 2019 MAAC Player of the Year Madysen Cossack and Second Team All-MAAC selection Izzy DeChiaro, and allowed the squad to finish with double-digit home wins for the third time in the last four campaigns.

Ferro returned to Siena after spending the previous five seasons across the Hudson River, serving as an assistant coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York from 2014-18.

Working primarily with team administration and recruiting, she helped the Engineers capture the Liberty League Regular Season Championship in three of her four seasons on-staff, assisting the team in winning the 2017 Liberty League Tournament and finish as an NCAA Division III Regional Finalist. With Ferro on staff, RPI’s coaches were honored as the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year in 2017 and 2018.

A four-year letter-winner for the Saints from 2010-13, Ferro made 189 appearances in her career in the Green and Gold, tied for fourth-most in program history. A Second Team All-MAAC selection her senior season, she led the team to a 2013 MAAC Regular Season Co-Championship following a 12-4 conference mark.

A mainstay in Lajeunesse’s outfield during her four years on the team, Ferro finished her collegiate career inside the top-10 of multiple Siena all-time lists. A Team Captain her senior season, she currently holds the third-most runs scored in program history (105), and also sits in the top-10 in career stolen bases (27), walks (56), doubles (35), hits (161) and total bases (211), as well as hits (53) and walks (21) in a season, both in 2013.

A three-time MAAC All-Academic Team member from 2011-13, Ferro earned a place on the Siena Student Athlete 4.0 Club in 2012, displaying a perfect GPA throughout her junior season. She was honored on the Siena President’s List in 2012 and was a three-time Dean’s List honoree.

Ferro earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Siena in 2013, with a minor in English.
