  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Greg Cathell enters his first season as an assistant coach with the Siena Women's Soccer program. He is involved in all aspects of the program, including practice preparation, coaching and player evaluation, scouting, recruiting and player support and development.

"I am looking forward to having Greg join our staff," noted head coach Steve Karbowski upon his hiring. "He brings quite a bit of collegiate coaching experience with him, both as a head and assistant coach. He has a great work ethic and pays attention to details. Greg has been successful at every place he's been, and I know that he will only enhance our program."

Cathell brings six years of collegiate coaching experience with him to Loudonville. He joins the Saints after spending the previous two seasons as the head coach at nearby Division III Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy.

Cathell amassed a 19-12-8 overall head coaching record at RPI, including an 8-5-3 mark in the Liberty League. He led the Engineers to a five-win improvement and the program's best record in 14 years in his first season in 2014, while developing Liberty League Rookie of the Year Tori Riopelle and First Team All-League selections Taylor Korytko, who was also named the first NSCAA All-American (Third Team) in school history, and Shelby Stromerson. Both Cathell's 2014 and 2015 RPI teams received NSCAA Team Academic Awards for attaining 3.0 cumulative team GPAs.

Prior to being named the head coach at fellow local Division III school Sage in January 2014, Cathell spent the previous four seasons as an assistant coach and head recruiting coordinator at Salisbury University in Maryland. He helped guide the Sea Gulls to a 42-29-8 overall record, highlighted by a Capital Athletic Conference Tournament Championship and Division III NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011. Cathell helped mentor 12 First Team All-CAC and four All-Region selections, while recruiting Salisbury's first-ever CAC Rookie of the Year in 2011.

Cathell served as the varsity soccer head coach at Delmar High School in Delmar, Delaware from 2003-08. He posted a 31-15-2 overall record in four seasons as the boys' head coach, and a 23-9 mark in two seasons guiding the girls' team. He coached nine All-State selections, and was named both the Henlopen Conference and Delaware State Girls Soccer Coach of the Year in 2008 after leading the team to a 13-3 record. Cathell has also served as an assistant coach and technical trainer for the U18 Farmingdale Freedom Girls Soccer Team since 2010.

A 2009 graduate of Maryland Eastern Shore with his B.A. in secondary education, Cathell earned a master's degree in post-secondary education from Salisbury in 2012. A member of the NSCAA with his National Coaching Diploma, Cathell and his wife, Mia, reside in Troy.
