Former student athlete Izzy Harms returned to Siena Swimming & Diving as a member of the coaching staff in October 2022, and was promoted to her current role as Assistant Coach in August 2023. A 2022 Siena graduate, Harms returned following a successful career in Green and Gold.
“We are excited to welcome Izzy back in this new role,” Head Coach Brogan Barr said upon Harms' appointment. “She had great junior and senior seasons, and graduated as one of the program’s all-time backstrokers. Izzy has a natural eye for the sport, and will make an immediate impact on the program!”
The 2022-23 season brought success that the program had not experienced in recent memory. Harms aided Siena to its most dual meet wins (9) in 11 seasons and a sixth place finish at MAAC Championships for the second straight year. The team set the school record in the 800 free relay, broke three Siena Swim Center pool records, and featured its first MAAC Individual Champion since 2011 in junior Talia Spenziero's one-meter diving title. Spenziero and senior Lydia Delano qualified and competed at NCAA Diving Zone Regionals despite the program not having a full-time diving coach.
A native of Kennebunkport, Maine, Harms was a four-year member of the Siena Swimming & Diving program from 2018-22, and served as a team captain during her senior season. A specialist in freestyle and backstroke, she placed fifth in the 200-yard backstroke during her senior year at MAAC Championships to earn All-MAAC honors, and was also a four-time MAAC Finalist throughout her collegiate career. Harms graduated the program with several entries on the program’s All-Time Top-Ten Performers List, including second in the 100 back (57.92), second in the 200 back (2:04.89), and seventh in the 200 IM (2:11.53).
Outside of her NCAA Division I swimming experience, Harms brings experience as a lifeguard and club swim coach to the Saints. She also served as a Student Athlete Mentor (SAM) while attending Siena.
Harms earned a Bachelor of Arts in Health Studies with an Administration Track and a minor in Management in 2022, and currently works at Albany Medical Center in nearby Albany.
