Biography
2016-17:
- Boasted a perfect 5-0 dual play record with a 2-0 league record in singles
- Played at both the fifth and sixth singles courts
- Recorded a 1-0 dual and conference doubles record at third doubles
- MAAC All-Academic Team
2015-16:
- Played in 12 singles matches, posting an even 6-6 record
- Recorded a 1-0 mark at number five singles and 5-6 at number six
- Played in 13 doubles matches, amassing a 7-6 record
2014-15:
- Recorded nine singles victories
- Saw time at the 4, 5 and 6 spots
- Posted a 7-6 doubles record, including 2-2 in the MAAC
- Played at least twice at every doubles position
GENERAL:
- Dedicated, hard-working individual, who puts her all into everything she does
- Athletically, she is well-conditioned, and highly motivated to do her best
- Has numerous awards to her credit on the tennis court, in the classroom, and out in the community
- Possesses USTA experience
- 2014 Jeremy Cares Scholarship winner for her volunteer work with the organization as well as being a cancer survivor herself
- Siena College presidential scholar.
BEFORE SIENA:
- At Westlake, she was awarded the Kiwanis Club High Honor Roll Distinction Award and the Presidential Academic Achievement Award
- Co-president of the school's National Art Honor Society and the National Honor Society
- Was a Gold Racquet Award recipient from the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association
- Named the Midwest Marian Wood Baird Cup Achievement Award recipient at USTA District Cup Tournament - award is given to graduating senior who shows leadership skills and education/excellence in classroom off the court and tennis accomplishments on the court
- A First Team All-Conference recipient all four years and was conference MVP in 2013
- Qualified at the State Tennis Tournament three of her four years in high school where she was team captain her final two seasons
PERSONAL/COMMUNITY:
- Was a Special Needs Student Assistant her entire high school career, and a Peer Tutor/Peer Mediator
- Served as West Shore special needs summer camp volunteer and Relay for Life event coordinator
- Helped instruct tennis at a special needs summer tennis program for young adults
- Acted as a USTA assistant tournament director
- Chose Siena because of the smaller class sizes and friendly advisors, and because the athletic program is comprehensive and the right level of competition.
- Her aunt, Vicki Nelson Dunbar, played tennis for Rollins College and played professionally for 10 years, holding the record for the longest women's tennis match (6:31) and longest point (29 minute, 643-shot rally) in professional tennis history.
GETTING TO KNOW JULIA:
Nickname: Juju
One thing I wish people knew about me, but don't is: If I could just not work and create non-profits or organizations like them to help people, my life would for the most part be complete
Why did you choose Siena: Siena had a great combination of athletics (such as the level of competition, coach, and team) and academics that suited what I was looking for
If I didn't play tennis I would: Probably play another sport and have focused more on art
My favorite TV show is: Suits
My favorite books is: Wuthering Heights
My favorite food is: Hummus, at least for now
My favorite website is: Pinterest
If I could travel anywhere in the world, I would go to (why)?: As of now, probably back to California, so I could visit family I haven't seen in awhile
The person I would pick as my dream doubles partner is: Probably one of the Bryan Bros. they are both very good and have a lot of doubles experience
The person I would most like to play a singles match with is: Andre Agassi, he was a good player and I really liked his book
If I could meet anyone in the world, it would be: My grandpa who passed away before I was born
What song/band is most likely to be playing on your iPod: Clocks by Coldplay
What reality show could you see yourself being a part?: Top Chef, I love to cook and try new food
Words to live by: The only thing permanent in life is change
