Karina Sundberg

Sundberg was officially announced as Assistant Volleyball Coach on July 7, 2023.

Sundberg makes the journey to Loudonville after boasting experience in the coaching sphere as a sport performance coach with St. Vincent de Paul High School in Petaluma, Ca. as well as head volleyball coaching experience with the same program for the past two seasons.

One of her noted strengths is her ability to design programs for student-athletes that positively impact strength and conditioning as well as enhance confidence for in-game scenarios.

“I am ecstatic to welcome Karina to our coaching staff,” said Siena head volleyball coach Simone Asque-Favia.

“Karina brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience and has an exceptional eye for skill mechanics and training. In this program, we strive to coach with enthusiasm, compassion, and intellect, and Karina exemplifies this through and through!”

Sundberg has had prior experience coaching volleyball with the College of Marin as an assistant with the beach and indoor teams and the Marin Juniors Club team.

Additionally, Sundberg has worked as a sports performance coach intern with UC Berkeley and served as the head junior varsity coach for the girls’ volleyball team and the head boys’ volleyball coach at Washington Union High in Fresno, Ca.

During her playing career, the 6-foot outside hitter played with the Brazilian team from 2012 to 2014 as well as on the Sao Caetano Club in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Franca Club in Franca, Brazil, and for Western Nebraska Community College.  As a freshman with WNCC, she helped the Cougars finish 29-9 with a fifth-place finish in the NJCAA D1 Volleyball Championships.

She was also a member of Ranger College that won the Region IX Championship and placed third in the NJCAA national.  There, she was named to the All-North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Team after tallying 234 kills and 184 digs to help the Rangers contend for a berth in the Region 5 North Conference Tournament.

Sundberg is NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified) in CPR, AED and first aid training.

She holds a B.S. degree in Kinesiology from Fresno State.
