2017 JUCO World Series MVP and former Kansas City Royals prospect Evan Steele was appointed the pitching coach for the Siena University Baseball program in September 2025.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have Evan joining our coaching staff,” said head coach Alex Jurczynski upon Steele's hiring. “He brings not only a wealth of knowledge, but also valuable experience that will make an immediate impact on our program. Evan’s passion for the game and commitment to developing student athletes will make us better from Day One. We are excited to have Evan, Sutton, and Margot become a part of our Siena Family!”
Steele joins the Saints after serving as a private pitching instructor for the previous year. He holds a wealth of experience and expertise in arm care, pitch sequencing, and mental performance, and his approach to player development is rooted in a deep understanding of the game and a commitment to fostering both technical and mental growth.
Steele previously served as the pitching coach at his alma mater, Chipola Junior College, where he piloted an Indians staff which achieved significant improvements in ERA, strikeouts, and overall efficiency for a squad which won the 2022 Panhandle Conference Championship and earned an FCSAA State Tournament berth. He also aided in the development of a pair of Major League Baseball Draft selections.
Steele pitched professional for four seasons in the Kansas City Royals organization (2017-21) after being selected 73rd overall in the 2017 MLB Draft in the Competitive Balance B Round. The southpaw made 16 career professional starts across multiple levels, pitching to a 2.84 ERA with 72 strikeouts over 57 innings pitched.
Steele began his collegiate playing career at Vanderbilt before transferring to Chipola where he played a pivotal role in pitching the program to the 2017 NJCAA National Championship. His standout performance earned him Most Valuable Pitcher honors at the JUCO World Series.
Steele graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Business Management from Auburn University in 2024. A native of Marietta, Georgia, he and his wife, Sutton, are the proud parents of a daughter, Margot.
