LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - In a back-and-forth game, Lance Rashford scored midway through the second overtime to lead Iona past Siena in a MAAC matchup 3-2 Sunday afternoon.
Despite windy and unseasonably cold conditions, the game was offensive in tone throughout. Tom Santoro (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga) got the scoring started for Siena (1-6-1, 1-2 MAAC) early in the first half.
Iona (3-8, 1-3 MAAC) rallied twice from deficits on goals by Joseph Mastropietro late in the first half and Jason Nardis midway through the second.
Iona outshot Siena 22-13. Saints goalie Jonathan Hicks (Merrick, N.Y./Chaminade) kept the Saints in it with 13 saves. Iona goalie Robert Dolle also made several spectacular game-saving stops.
The Saints return to action Tuesday at home against Central Connecticut at 4:00 p.m.
