LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Fairfield jumped to an early lead and Siena never recovered as the Stags advanced to the MAAC final with a 2-1 victory Friday afternoon at Rider University. The loss ended Siena's season at 6-10-2, while the 24th-ranked Stags improved to 11-2-4.
Justin Thompson scored 13 minutes into the game to give Fairfield the lead. Aaron Kingi added to the lead early in the second half off an assist from Bryan Harkin.
Siena notched its lone goal of the game when Kevin Purcell (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) scored with less than a minute remaining. The goals was Purcell's seventh of the season.
Jonathan Hicks (Merrick, N.Y./Chaminade) made 11 saves for Siena. The Stags outshot the Saints 19-5.
