ALBANY, N.Y. - Terry Reynolds led a balanced Toledo attack with 14 points as the Rockets rallied from several second half deficits to earn a 64-61 overtime non-conference victory over Siena in front of 5,178 fans at Pepsi Arena Tuesday evening.
Toledo took a one-point lead into the final minute of overtime and extended their advantage on a layup by Nick Moore. In the game's most critical sequence, Moore was fouled on the play and missed the free throw, but Keith Triplett grabbed the rebound for the Rockets and got the ball back to Moore. Moore was quickly fouled again and converted the deciding free throws.
Swingman Dwayne Archbold led Siena offensive charge with 17 points.
The Saints rallied from a 10-point first half deficit with 2:31 remaining to even the score at 27-27 at the intermission. Prosper Karangwa's driving jumpshot with just three seconds left in the half tied the score. Karangwa connected on just 3-of-12 attempts from the floor in the first half, but finished the game with 13 points.
Siena took their first meaningful lead with 13:08 left in the game as Toledo was charged with a goaltending infraction on an Archbold's lay-up. Freshman Tommy Mitchell provided a spark off the bench, connecting on a key three-point play with just over five minutes left to push the lead to 52-48.
The Rockets had a chance to tie the game with just over three minutes left when Karangwa picked off an errant pass and drove the length of the floor to put Siena back up by four.
Reynolds rallied the Rockets from the charity stripe line tying the game with two free throws with only 1:20 left in the game. Karangwa answered with two from the line for the Saints, but Reynolds quickly tied the score again with a driving lay-up with 42 seconds left.
After a Saints' timeout, point guard Mark Price was called for a double dribble violation giving Toledo the ball with the shotclock off. The Rockets opted to hold for the final shot and settled for a fade-away 18-footer from Reynolds that fell short at the buzzer creating the overtime.
Siena begins conference play at Marist Thursday evening. The Saints return home on Saturday night against MAAC foe Niagara.
