Siena Falls to Marist in MAAC Opener

Poughkeepsie, NY--The Marist College men's basketball team earned a 77-69 victory over visiting Siena College this evening at the McCann Center, in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) season opener for both teams. Marist had four players score in double figures, as it improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the league. Siena, which falls to 2-7 overall and 0-1 in the league, had five players score 10 or more points.

In a tightly contests contest, the Red Foxes opened a 29-18 lead with 4:20 remaining in the first half, but would not score the rest of the period, while Siena scored 1 unanswered, making the halftime score 29-28, in the Red Foxes favor.

Marist, which never trailed in the game, led by as many as 12 points in the second half, 65-53, with 2:04 left in the contest. Siena scored 16 points in the next 124 second, while Marist went 9-16 from the line, including four missed in a row, to allow the Saints to within as Fe as six points, 75-69, with eight second left in the game.

Nick Eppehimer (Pottstown, PA) had a game and career-high 18 points, including 4-6 from behind the three-point line. He also led the team with eight rebounds. Matt Tullis (Orem, UT) shot well from the floor, 6-10, to finish with 17 points, along with six boards. David Bennett (Salt Lake City, UT) came off of the bench to add 12 points, while Rick Smith (Bladensburg, MD) scored 11 points for Marist.

Siena received a 17-point effort from Dwayne Archbold, who missed nearly 14 minutes of the second half with four fouls. Propser Karangwa, Mark Price and Andy Cavo all had 11 points in the effort for Siena, while Justin Miller added 10 points in the effort.

Siena, which outrebounded Marist 32-26, shot 53.5 percent (23-43) from the field, including 44.4 percent (8-18) from behind the arc. Marist, which dished out 16 assists, and only seven turnovers, was good on nearly 44 percent (25-57) of its field goal efforts. The Red Foxes were 10-26 from behind the arc, and shot 70.8 percent from the free throw line.

The Saints returnm to action against Niagara on Saturday evening at Pepsi Arena. Game-time is set for 7 p.m.
