Streaking Saints Stifle St. Peter's 73-59

ALBANY, N.Y. - Siena (8-10/5-1 MAAC) held St. Peter's (1-12/0-5) to just 12 first half points and shot 49% from the field in capturing a convincing 73-59 win in front of 6,909 fans at Pepsi Arena Sunday afternoon. The victory was Siena's fourth straight overall and fifth in a row in the conference after a MAAC opening loss at Marist on December 6. After closing the 2001 portion of its schedule with a 4-10 record, Siena has won all four of its games in 2002.

Dwayne Archbold recorded his fifth double-double of the season, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 boards to pace the Saints.

Siena held the Peacocks without a field goal for the final 7:29 of the first half, closing the period on an 11-1 run to build the 19-point advantage.

Prosper Karangwa scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the victors. Mark Price connected on 6-of-8 field goal attempts, scoring 14 points in his return to the lineup. For his efforts, Price was selected Player of the Game. Freshman Brent Sniezyk rounded out Siena's double-figure scorers with 10 points.

Melvin Robinson and Corien John led the visitors with 20 and 15 points respectively. The duo scored 29 of their 35 total points after the intermission, helping the Peacocks close to within as few as 13 twice-lastly with just under two minutes remaining.

Siena returns to action at Pepsi Arena Thursday evening in a first-place showdown with Manhattan College at 7 p.m. Siena currently holds a half game lead over the Jaspers who have won 12 of their last 13 games.
