ALBANY, N.Y. - Prosper Karangwa scored a career-high 30points as Siena (6-10/3-1 MAAC) rallied from a 16-point first half deficit to upend Rider (5-7/1-2) 64-63 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest played before 5,783 fans at Pepsi Arena Saturday afternoon.
Rider began the game on a 20-4 run, building their largest lead of the game just nine minutes into the contest. Mario Porter, who finished the half with 14 of his team-high 26 points, led the early charge.
The Saints ended the half with a 28-15 run of their own to close within three, 35-32, at the break. Karangwa connected on all four of three-point attempts over the stretch and finished the half with 16 of his 30 points.
Siena took its first lead of the game with 15:40 remaining, as Karangwa connected on an off-balance three.
Rider hung tough, tying the game at 46-46 with 13:40 left. They remained within striking distance into the waning moments, and had the ball down just a single point three times with under a minute remaining. Porter's driving jump shot came up short, however, and Jerry Johnson, who ended with 14 points, was called for an offensive charge on Rider's ensuing possession. Johnson then had a chance to win the game with a three-pointer at the buzzer that just rimmed out.
Senior Dwayne Archbold, coming off back-to-back monster performances registered his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the victors.
Siena returns to action on Thursday at Loyola (Md.). Game-time is set for 7:30 p.m.
