Wagner Men's Lax Wins Defensive Struggle

April 24, 2002

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Wagner's defense held the Saints scoreless for over 40 minutes and the Seahawks rallied from an early deficit to beat Siena 7-4 Wednesday afternoon.

Siena (1-11/0-5 MAAC) led 3-2 with 12 minutes left in the second quarter. However, Wagner's (3-9/1-6 MAAC) defense clamped down and sparked five straight goals from the Seahawks before the Saints scored with just over a minute left in the game.

Eddie Noll scored three goals for the victors while Mike Lynch added a pair of tallies. Jason Hassler had a goal and two assists as well.

Goalkeeper John Pence (Charlotte, VT/Champlain Valley Union) kept the Saints in the game with 18 saves. Wagner outshot the Saints 35-19. Dan Wolpert (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Kennedy) scored twice for the Green and Gold. Tom Nally (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) added a pair of assists.

The Saints close the regular season with a pair of home games this weekend. Siena hosts St. Joseph's on Senior Day Saturday at 1. The Saints welcome Canisius on Sunday.
