Saints Rally Falls Short

April 3, 2002

Worcester, MA - The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season with a 15-9 win over Siena College in a driving rain storm this afternoon at the Hart Center. Freshman Mike McKee (Sloatsburg, NY) continued his stellar play for the Crusaders with three goals and four assists to lead the HC scoring attack.

Siena got on the board first when Daniel Wolpert fired a shot into the Holy Cross net less than a minute into the game. HC responded with five unanswered goals sparked by the play of McKee and sophomore Tim Walsh (Springfield, MA). Walsh tallied the Crusaders first two goals of the spurt while McKee added the next two tallies. Fellow freshman Mark McLean (Westwood, MA) chipped in the fifth goal of the game for HC as the Crusaders led 5-1 after the first quarter. The Saints cut the deficit to just two goals with back to back tallies by Wolpert and Thomas Nally before HC responded with three straight goals midway through the second quarter. After another Walsh goal, HC's Brian Taylor (Randolph, NJ) converted back to back markers. Nally scored his second goal of the game with 2:27 left in the second quarter but McKee notched another goal.

The second half proved to be more of the same for HC as it notched three more goals in the third and three more in the fourth to notch the team's highest scoring output of the season. Holy Cross will next be in action this Saturday as it will travel to Hamilton, NY to battle Colgate at 1:00 p.m.
