Final Stats
The University of Vermont swimming and diving team improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 1991-92 season with a 179-93 victory over Siena on Saturday. Siena's Ashley Serrago and Dana Golino each won individual events for the Saints.
The Catamounts won nine swimming events, led by freshmen Lauren Honrath and Ashley Gillespie who each picked up a pair of victories.
Serrago won the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events and Golino won the 200 yard backstroke. The Siena 200 medley relay team debuted the meet with a victory. The relay team was made up of Golino, Kaitlin Krause, Serrago and Shanna Allen.
Honrath won the 500 (5:20.08) and 1,000 (10:45.51) freestyle events for the second straight week. Her time in the 1,000 was a lifetime best and broke the UVM freshmen record in the process that was held by current teammate Ali Fowler, who had a time of 10:49.41 in 2003. Gillespie was victorious in the 100 (1:10.86) and 200 (2:29.21) breaststroke events.
Senior Helen Dembinski won the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:02.83 and was also a member of the 200 freestyle relay team along with Jessica Breitfeller, Rachel Kent and Eryka Karz that won in an ECAC qualifying time of 1:42.83.
Fowler won the 200 IM in 2:16.21 and also finished second in the 1,000 freestyle in an ECAC qualifying time of 10:54.60. Vermont also took first place in the 100 and 200 butterfly events, with Karz taking the 100 in 1:01.59 and sophomore Nicole Underhill winning the 200 in 2:14.22.
