Men's Soccer Goes Distance With Manhattan for Tie

Nov. 2, 2005

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Two times this season this game has been postponed due to inclement weather and as fate would have it, Siena (3-11-2, 1-4-2) and Manhattan (1-13-3, 1-3-3) slugged it out in a scoreless double-overtime tie this afternoon in chilly Riverdale, N.Y.

The Saints outshot Manhattan in the extra frames 5-3 with the Jaspers holding the edge in shots on goal 3-2.

Both teams had great scoring opportunities in the second overtime. Senior tri-captain Alejandro Vazquez (Newburgh, N.Y.) single-handedly kept Siena from getting the loss. Manhattan had pushed the ball to the goal line where it was corralled and cleared by Vazquez before any Jasper player could put it into the empty net.

A few minutes later with Manhattan pressing, the Saints cleared the ball out of the zone and had a breakaway going the other way. Nick D'Allesandro (West Hempstead, N.Y.) fired off a shot in the ensuing push that was stopped by Jasper goalie David Mires.

Senior Sean Kelly (Red Hook, N.Y.) had a game-high six shots with four of them coming on goal.

Junior Patrick Henry (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) went the distance between the pipes for the Saints making seven saves in the game.

41 fouls were called in the game and Manhattan's Brian Lundy was called for a red card at the 52 minute mark. The Jaspers played the rest of the game a man down.

Manhattan was whistled for seven offsides penalties.

Siena wraps up the regular season with a pair of home games this weekend against Iona on Friday, November 4, at 2 p.m. then Fairfield on Senior Day Sunday, November 6, at 1 p.m.
