Men's Soccer Drops 3-1 MAAC Game To Iona

Nov. 4, 2005

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena (3-12-2, 1-5-2) grabbed an early lead but had their homecoming party cut short 3-1 at the hands of Iona (5-11-1, 3-4-1) this afternoon at Siena Field.

The Saints needed just over five minutes to grab the lead. Off a scramble in the box, Sophomore Thomas Ciovacco got the rebound of his own shot and fired the ball into the empty right corner of the goal. The goal gives the Pougkeepsie, N.Y., native four goals on the season.

The Green and Gold were outshot 14-13 in a physical game where 34 fouls and five yellow cards were issued.

Iona's Michael Ferenci played spoiler getting an assist on the tying goal and scoring the Gaels insurance goal off a cornerkick in the 35th minute. The other goals were scored by Maciek Sliwinski and Felipe Faundez.

The Saints blasted five shots on goal with four of those shots coming in the second half comeback attempt. Six players rattled off at least one shot each to account for the offense.

Junior Patrick Henry (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) did not play due to injury. Dan Majewski (Staten Island, N.Y.) started in goal and Eric Rosse (Malta, N.Y.) played between the pipes as well for the Green and Gold making three saves.

Siena wraps up the regular season with Senior Day this Sunday, November 6, at 1 p.m. as Fairfield comes to Loudonville. All eight seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
