The men's and women's basketball teams will again hold year-end banquets to honor their senior classes and present season awards. The men's banquet will take place Thursday, April 14 at the Wolf Road Marriott beginning at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception to be followed by dinner and awards ceremony. The women's banquet will be held Sunday, April 24 beginning with a 4 p.m. reception at Wolferts Roost Country Club, followed by dinner and awards ceremony.
Both banquets are open to the general public--admission is $32 per person to each banquet. For more information please contact the Siena athletic department at 783-2450. Capital News 9 sports anchor Damian Andrew will serve as emcee for both banquets.
The men will recognize seniors Gary Holle, Brent Sniezyk and Tommy Mitchell. The trio helped the program advance to both the NCAA Tournament (2002) and NIT (2003). Together they won 58 games and advanced to at least the semifinal round of the MAAC Tournament in three of the their four seasons. Mitchell finished 22nd on Siena's all-time scoring charts with 1,113 career points. Holle and Sniezyk each played their best basketball as seniors. Holle started the final 13 games of the 2004-2005 season, averaging 20 minutes per contest. He averaged 4.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Sniezyk played in 124 games in his career, and started 28 of the 30 games he played as a senior. He averaged 5.3 points and a team-high 6.1 rebounds per game this season.
The men's banquet will also provide the general public with a first opportunity to meet and greet new head coach Fran McCaffery.
The women will recognize their lone senior, 6-4 center Alexis Darling. Darling started eight games and played in all 29 as a senior, helping the Saints to a 13-16 overall mark and a 9-9 record in MAAC play. She averaged 1.8 points and 1.8 rebounds this season.
