The Siena College men's and women's cross country programs competed in the National Catholic Championships this past weekend at the Burke Memorial Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The men's team placed 12th out of 33 schools from across the country and the Siena women landed in 18th of 35 programs.
Darren Legere (54) and Adam Harding (55) paced the Siena men, completing the 8K course in 26:47 and 26:51 respectively. Justin Daino (74), Andrew Knipfing (101) and John Hart (133) completed Siena's scoring quintet. DePaul, St. Joseph's Holy Cross and Canisius were each among the 21 schools the Saints beat in the meet.
The Siena women were led by reigning MAAC Runner of the Week Katie Luker who got home in 19:26 to place 35th in a field of 277 runners. Megan Davey (93), Ashley Dwyer (111), Alyssa Cole (133) and Venessa Henry (138) rounded out the five Siena women whose scores contributed to the 18th place finish.
"I was very pleased by our team's overall effort and attitude this weekend," head coach Jim Bowles said. "This is a great meet to be a part of, and I thought we performed well. At this stage of the season, we are most concerned about improving our times each week, and this was a step in the right direction."
The Saints return to action in the Fairfield invitational October 1.
