Saints Shoot Down Canisius 76-55

Jan. 22, 2006

Box Score

Antoine Jordan scored 22 points and Kojo Mensah added 16 points and nine rebounds as Siena drilled Canisius 76-55 in Albany Sunday. The Saints shot 59% from 3-point range, converting half of their 26 baskets from long range.

"I thought the difference in this game was our defense," head coach Fran McCaffery said. "(Unlike the first time we played them) we got after them, and were able to get into our transition offense off their misses."

Canisius had defeated Siena 67-50 in Buffalo in December.

Siena scored the game's first eight points and never trailed. After Tay Fisher connected on one of his five first half 3-pointers (5-6) with 10:48 remaining the Saints owned a 28-11 lead.

The Griffs answered with an 11-2 run to cut the lead to eight, and trailed just 40-33 at the break.

Canisius scored the first basket of the second half to trim the lead to five, but then Siena turned up the defensive heat. The Saints held Canisius to 36% (9-25) from the field in the second half.

Kenny Hasbrouck scored nine of his 11 points in the second half and Mike Beers came off the bench to connect on two of his three 3-pointers after intermission.

Siena's lead bulged to 27 with 4:25 remaining following a 13-0 run.

Darnell Wilson led three Canisius players in double figures with 15 points. Corey Herring had 14 and Chuck Harris added 10.

Jordan scored 50 points on the week, following up a 28-point effort in Siena's win over Saint Peter's Thursday. Jordan went 3-for-4 from 3-point range. He entered the game sixth nationally in 3-point percentage.

Siena hosts Iona on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
