Gail Picillo has been hired as the new athletic academic advisor at Siena College. Director of athletics John D'Argenio announced the appointment today. Picillo takes over for Sue Yund, who had served in the role for the past two years.
Picillo most recently served as assistant registrar for transfer articulation at the College of Saint Rose. In that role, she advised transfer students, developed articulation agreements with two-year institutions and served as a liaison with students, faculty members and other institutions among other duties.
At Saint Rose, Picillo also worked as a counselor and an office assistant after obtaining her master's degree in counseling from the College in 2000.
Picillo has held various related internships and assistantships in the counseling field since completing her undergraduate study at Siena in 1996. She graduated from Siena with a bachelor of arts degree in English. Following graduation, she accepted a job as an advertising specialist with the Times Union, where she worked for two years.
After completing her master's program in 2000, Picillo spent a year as a therapist in Maui, Hawaii. She returned to the states in July of 2001, when she was hired, and ultimately promoted twice at Saint Rose.
At Siena, Picillo is a valuable resource for nearly 350 student-athletes. She overseas an aggressive academic support program that has helped Siena student athletes rank among the elite in the nation in various NCAA and sport specific measures of academic achievement and success. Picillo will assist student athletes in scheduling, monitor study hall sessions and coordinate tutoring and other special needs.
Picillo played club lacrosse at Siena and has remained active by competing in both beach and grass doubles volleyball. An active outdoorswoman, she also bicycled across the United States.
