Saints Fall to Holy Cross, 65-57

Worcester, Mass. - Torey Thomas posted 16 second half points to lead the Crusaders past Siena 65-57 at the Hart Center this afternoon. Michael Haddix (Vineland, N.J./St. John Neumann/St. Augustine Prep) led the way for the Saints with 13 points and four rebounds. Today's loss snaps a four game winning streak over Holy Cross as the Saints fall to 0-2 on the year.

The Saints jumped out to a nine point advantage with 7:55 remaining in the first half. Holy cross evened the score at 27-27 when Tim Clifford, a junior center, laid one in and connected on the three point play. Crusader guard Keith Simmons erupted for 14 first half points shooting 6-10 from the field. Holy Cross took a five point lead into the half.

The Crusaders opened the second half with a 10-2 run in the first four minutes jumping out to a 44-31 lead, their largest of the game. The Saints rallied back with a 19-6 run of their own. A wide open Kenny Hasbrouck (Capital Heights, Md./Maine Central Prep) lay-up capped off the run evening the score at 50-50. Hasbrouck delivered 11 points shooting 5-9 from the field. Minutes later, David Ryan (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) gave the Saints their first lead of the second half when he buried a fade away 3-pointer with 3:12 remaining to take a 55-54 advantage. Ryan was the third Saint to post double figures registering 11 points.

Alex Vander Baan answered back with a lay-up 30 seconds later putting Holy Cross ahead as they cruised to their third straight win. The Saints were held to just one field goal in the last three minutes of action.

Siena opens their season 0-2 for the third straight year. The Saints return to action on the road versus Dartmouth on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
