Siena Explodes Past Dartmouth for First Win of Season

Nov. 22, 2006

Box Score

Michael Haddix and Kenny Hasbrouck combined for 38 second half points to help Siena pull away from stubborn Dartmouth, 83-69, in Hanover Wednesday night. Haddix finished with a career high 28 points, and the Saints shot 67% from the floor in the second half, out-scoring the Big Green 51-37 after intermission.

Dartmouth controlled much of the first half action, building as much as a nine point advantage, 28-19, with 8:30 left. Freshman Edwin Ubiles scored six \ of his 12 points in the remaining time before the break to help the Saints rally to tie the score, 32-32.

Hasboruck was held scoreless in the first half, but was the difference in the second.

"My first two shots didn't fall in the first half, so I wasn't looking for my shot as much," Hasbrouck said. "In the second half, I converted on my first two looks and got some momentum going."

Hasbrouck scored all 21 of his points in the second half, and when he wasn't scoring he found Haddix running the floor.

Haddix had 17 of his 38 points in the second half, forcing the Dartmouth wings to sag into the paint, opening up the outside for the wings.

Senior Mike Beers came off the bench and scored five straight points, the final three coming on a key 3-pointer from the right wing with the Saints leading just 62-61. The basket ignited a 26-8 run to end the game for the Saints.

"I thought Mike (Beers) really gave us a lift off the bench (in that sequence)," Head coach Fran McCaffery said. "It was critical for us to knock down some outside shots since Tay (Fisher) and Dave (Ryan) were struggling (with their shots)."

The Saints received another solid performance from freshman Alex Franklin who scored 11 points (nine in the first half), his third double-digit performance in as many games.

Dartmouth placed four players in double figures led by Jonathan Ball who had 18 points, five rebounds and three assists. Dartmouth had been struggling offensively this season, but shot 45% from the floor on this night. They also had 30 points with over five minutes to go in the first half after not reaching the 30 point mark in the first half of their first three games.

Siena returns to action at NJIT on Monday, concluding a four-game road trip to start the season.
