On Friday over 30 Siena student-athletes swept through campus collecting canned and non-perishable goods helping restock the Northeast Regional Food Bank following the Thanksgiving holiday.
Members of the men's basketball team were joined by the softball and men's lacrosse teams in an initiative that had great results.
"It is important for us to do our part to give back to the community," sophomore basketball player Justin Maxwell said. "It was great to see so many of our classmates and peers willing to help others in need."
Softball and field hockey sophomore Renee Clavette agreed. "We really enjoyed going door to door and seeing everyone so excited to be involved," Clavette said. "This is a great cause and we have responsibilities as student-athletes to do our part in helping out the Capital Region community."
The stated goal was to raise 1,047 pounds - the collective weight of Siena's basketball starting lineup. It was unclear at press time exactly how much food was collected, but the Siena students' generosity was evident.
Last year, Siena men's and women's basketball players went to the Northeast Regional Food Bank warehouse and spent an afternoon unloading trucks and helping to stock food and merchandise.
