LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Women's soccer junior Amy Loughridge and men's golf senior Dennis Gosier were named the Leo Dufort Student-Athletes of the Month for October, while women's volleyball junior Jessica Hackett and men's cross country senior Paul Notar were the recipients of the November award.
"The Leo Dufort student-athlete of the month is among the highest honors presented by Siena Athletics," director of athletics John D'Argenio said. "These four individuals exemplify the model student-athlete based on their success in the classroom and on the playing field."
Loughridge (Guilderland, N.Y.), a junior captain, posted a 3.48 GPA last spring as an Economics major. She was a Second Team All-MAAC and All-Academic Team selection this fall.
Gosier carries a 3.7 cumulative GPA in Political Science. Gosier tied for 11th place overall at the Saint Bonaventure Invitational Tournament this fall posting a combined score of 146, helping the Saints to a second place finish.
Hackett (Pawling, N.Y.) carries a 3.4 GPA in Mathematics. This fall, she helped guide the Saints to their second straight MAAC championship. Hackett was named to the 2006 MAAC All-Academic team.
Notar (Schenectady, N.Y.), a dual major in Economics and Political Science, harbors a 3.7 GPA. He consistently placed in the top five Siena finishers throughout the Fall. Notar earned a spot on the All-MAAC Academic team for his excellence in the classroom.
"Amy, Dennis, Jessica and Paul have demonstrated an ability to achieve extraordinary success in their roles as student-athletes," said athletic academic advisor Gail Picillo. "The Leo Dufort student-athlete of the month award is a great honor, and these four student-athletes are well deserving."
The Leo Dufort Student-Athlete of the Month Award is presented nine times annually (September-May) throughout the academic year. The award recognizes exemplary achievements in both academics and athletics. The late Leo Dufort received a B.S. in marketing and management from Siena in August of 1977. His entire academic career was completed on a part-time basis beginning in the spring of 1961, as a married adult while at the same time raising five children. He passed away suddenly of a heart attack while cross country skiing in February of 1993. His wife Jeanine wanted to do something to immortalize his memory. The original plaque was donated to athletics and the department began the Leo Dufort Student-Athlete of the Month Award to help carry out his legacy. Dufort graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1954, was a Navy Veteran (USS Bennington) who worked for JL Hammett Co. at the time of his death.
