Saints Flying High; Down Rider 87-79

Dec. 9, 2006

Final Stats

ALBANY, N.Y. - Kenny Hasbrouck scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half, including 10 in the final 10 minutes, to lead Siena past visiting Rider 87-79 at Pepsi Arena Saturday. Michael Haddix added a game-high 27 points to help the Saints offset 22 points and 12 reboudns from Rider big man Jason Thompson.

"I thought our kids showed a lot of maturity this week," head coach Fran McCaffery said. "To handle all the different circumstances surrounding the last three games speaks volumes to the things we can do this season."

Saturday's win was far from easy. Despite the efforts of Hasbrouck and Haddix, the Saints had to overcome 12 lead changes and 14 ties.

Thompson's 22 points and 12 rebounds led four Broncs in double figures. Rider had won five of its previous six games. Terrance Mouton finished with 15 points. Ryan Thompson and Harris Mansell each had 12.

Siena took the lead for good, 67-66, on an Edwin Ubiles free throw with 6:47 remaining. Ubiles reached double figures for the sixth straight game, finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Senior Mike Beers followed with a 3-pointer that gave Siena a four-point advantage and got the crowd of 4,884 into the game. Beers was in the training room for the first 30 minutes of the game receiving I-V's due to nausea. He connected on his first two 3-point attempts.

Rider cut the lead to 79-77 with 2:12 left on a Mouton free throw, but Hasbrouck and Haddix combined to score the game's next six points to give Siena its biggest lead, 85-77, with 47 seconds to go.

The Saints shot 50% from the field for the second straight game and third time this season. Rider's starting five combined for 69 of the Broncs 79 points.

Both teams were solid from the free throw line, though the Saints got there more often. Rider went 13-15 (87%), while Siena made 23 of its 29 attempts (79%).

Siena has now won five of its last six games. The Saints have a season-long 13-day break for final exams before returning to action at Buffalo in December 23.
