Siena Shuts Door on Fairfield

Feb. 7, 2006

Final Stats

Kenny Hasbrouck scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds and Siena limited Fairfield to just 32% from the floor in a 58-47 win at Pepsi Arena Tuesday night. The 47 points were the fewest Siena allowed all season, and the Stags starting five accounted for just 15 points.

Siena scored seven of the final nine points in the first half to erase a two-point deficit and take a 24-19 lead to the lockerroom. The two teams combined to shoot 30% (17-57) from the field and commit 19 first half turnovers, after entering the game as two of the top three teams in the league in protecting the basketball.

The Saints played without starting point guard Kojo Mensah for the final 15 minutes of the first half after he picked up his second foul. Mensah finished with just seven points, failing to reach double figures for the second straight game after doing so in 19 of the first 20.

Siena scored the first seven points of the second half to build a 12-point lead. Fairfield cut the lead to five three times, but could get no closer.

Danny Oglesby scored 14 points and Jonathan Han had 10 off the bench for the Stags. The two combined for five of Fairfield six 3-point field goals.

Terrance Todd, who entered the game as one of the MAAC's hottest players scored just six points (none in the second half) in 24 minutes.

"I thought our defensive execution was as good as we possibly could have expected," head coach Fran McCaffery said after the game. "We played with a sense of urgency tonight that was lacking (against Saint Peter's on Saturday).

Antoine Jordan shook off a poor shooting night to finish with 14 points and seven rebounds. David Ryan added 10 points in a winning effort.

Siena had just six second half field goals, but shot 21-23 from the free throw line after the break.

With the win, Siena moved into a tie for fifth place with the Stags. The Saints take on Rider Sunday at noon in a regionally televised game in Lawrenceville, N.J.
