Quinnipiac University won all nine matches contested to score a 7-0 win Tuesday in the season opener for both teams held Tuesday afternoon in Loudonville. The Bobcats advanced to the NCAA Tournament last spring, losing at Stanford in the opening round.
"We knew this was going to be a difficult match coming in," head coach Jim Serbalik said. "This is a very deep Quinnipiac team, but I thought we showed some toughness and really battled. This will be a good learning experience for all our young players."
After sweeping doubles play, with three hotly contested victories, Quinnipiac clinched the match with wins in the top three singles spots. Siena sophomore Jeremy Deuel put forth a game effort at top singles, losing the first set to Andrew Chan 7-6 and the second 6-4. Classmate Nick Rutherford also played well at second singles despite suffering a 6-3 and 6-1 loss to Sefano Salvatore.
Mike Aliotta rallied in the second set of his match at sixth singles before falling 705. John Hughes had won the first match with Siena's senior captain 6-3.
