Loudonville, N.Y. - Men's soccer was topped by the University at Buffalo 2-0 this afternoon at Siena Field. A first half Bulls goal by Andrae Clarke in the 31st minute proved to be the game winner. Teammate Brian Knapp tacked on an insurance goal in the second half to secure the win.
The Saints came out firing early in the first half and out shot Buffalo 8-4 in the first 45 minutes of action. In the 15th minute, midfielder Anthony Tagliafarri (West Sayville, N.Y./Saint John the Baptist) took a pass from fellow freshman Kevin Gluchowski (Carmel, N.Y./Mahopac) on the right side of the box, fired a shot on goal, only to be saved by the diving Bulls goaltender Daniel Bell. Then just minutes later teammate Mike DeSimone (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) collected the ball on the left side and placed it just inches above the crossbar.
Buffalo rallied back just before the half when Clark posted a goal at the 30:14 mark. Teammate Daniel Stevens crossed the midfield and sent an entry pass from the left side. Clark collected it, then lofted it over charging goalie Patrick Henry (LaGrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) finding the back of the net. The Bulls added an insurance goal in the 55th minute when Buffalo defender Sola Abolaji feed Knapp on the right side, beat the charging Henry and placed it in the open net.
Goaltender Daniel Bell tallied 3 saves in the winning effort and improves to 6-2-1 on the year. Henry totaled four saves in 83:33 minutes of action and falls to 1-5-0 this season. The four saves move Henry into fifth all-time in career saves as a Saint (238).
Siena drops to 1-5-1 and travel to Hamilton, N.Y. on Wednesday for a non-conference match-up with Colgate at 7:00 p.m.
