Buffalo, N.Y. - Michael Haddix had 26 points and 16 rebounds - his third straight double-double - to lead Siena past MAAC rival Canisius 78-60 in Buffalo on Wednesday night. It was just the third win in the last 13 seasons at Canisius' Koessler Center for the Saints who travel to Niagara Friday night at 7 p.m.
Trailing 29-23 following one of Pawel Malesa's six 3-pointers, Siena bridged the end of the first half and the beginning of the second with a 22-3 run. Ronald Moore and David Ryan capped the run with back-to-back 3-pointers, Ryan's bringing the lead to 45-32.
The Saints held onto the double digit lead the rest of the way, shooting 56.3 percent from the field in the second half.
Playing without leading scorer Chuck Harris, Canisius (5-8, 0-3 MAAC) shot just 36.8 percent from the field.
Harris, a senior who has started every game since his freshman year, will be sidelined for at least a week with a knee injury.
Kenny Hasbrouck scored 15 points for Siena. Alex Franklin added 10.
Haddix had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the second half and the Saints shot 56% from the field after intermission to take control of the game. Siena held a decisive 44-33 edge in rebounding and limited Canisius to just 37% from the floor.
Malesa led four Golden Griffins in double figures with 20 points.
Siena stands alone atop the MAAC as the league's lone unbeaten with a 3-0 mark.
