Final Stats

Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena men's soccer team battled Niagara (2-7-2, 0-2-1) to a 1-1 tie this afternoon in Western New York. Siena (4-6-3, 1-2-1) freshman midfielder Joseph Tempone notched the sole goal for the Saints, while Miles Patterson posted the equalizer for Niagara in the 53rd minute.

In the 14th minute, Tempone tallied the first goal of his collegiate career when he gathered a loose ball in the box and finished on the play. The Saints held on to this single goal advantage as they entered intermission.

The Purple Eagles refused to go away as they bombarded Siena with 11 shots in the second half. At the 52:27 mark, Niagara prospered from one of these opportunities when Patterson connected on a goal off a loose ball rebound in front of the goal.

Intensity grew on the field as both teams stood tall in the defensive end forcing overtime.

Siena goalkeeper Steve Skonieczny registered a solid performance in net posting a game-high eight saves, including a tremendous stop in the first overtime. Opposing goalie John Fiutowski managed four saves on the afternoon.

After 110 minutes of action, the heated league contest ended in a 1-1 tie. Niagara outshot the Saints 30-17 over the course of the game.
