Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena Women's Swimming and Diving team swam to their third straight victory Wednesday night with Holy Cross (0-3) as their latest victim in a 161-138 triumph in Worcester, Mass. For the Saints (3-1) it marked their third victory of the year as this season's squad has already matched their win total from all of last year in just the first eleven days of the 2007-08 campaign.
"I thought that this was our most complete win so far this year," remarked Head Coach Greg Brown. "We showed a lot of heart and I am proud of our team."
With the victory, Brown's Saints have now captured wins in five of their last six regular season meets dating back to late last year.
Once again freshmen Brittany Pavolko (Pittsfield, Mass/Pittsfield) and Caitlyn Biagioli (Kings Park, N.Y./St. Anthony's) paced the pool in numerous events. Pavolko tallied individual wins in both the 200 fly (2:14.27) and 100 fly events (:59.83), while also comprising part of the Saints' 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay winning squads.
Meanwhile Biagioli had perhaps her most impressive showing of an already stellar freshman campaign following individual wins in the 200 free (1:58.96) and 200 back (2:13.86), while also placing second overall in the 200 IM (2:16.48). Biagioli also joined with Pavolko, Bridget Rowland and Megan Dobbins in Siena's 200 medley relay win.
"We asked Caitlyn to step in and swim three individual 200's and she did not let us down," added Brown.
Fellow freshman Bethany Fried (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Sweet Home) represented Siena's other multiple event winner of the evening, taking home first place times in both the 1000 free (11:13.60) and 500 free (5:29.24).
Bridget Rowland (100 back) and Megan Dobbins (50 free) headlined the Saints other individual victories.
Maggie Gousman represented the Crusaders most consistent swimmer, capturing three of Holy Cross' six victories, with triumphs in the 100 and 200 breast, and 200 IM.
After four meets in the first eleven days of the season, the Saints will enjoy some time off before their next competition, a MAAC tri-meet showdown with Manhattan and St. Peter's, on November 17th in Riverdale, N.Y. Events are slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
