Loudonville, N.Y. - Siena forward Robert DiFilippo posted the game winning goal in the 36th minute helping the Saints to a 3-0 victory over Manhattan (2-13-2, 0-7-1) this evening in Riverdale, N.Y. The victory helps the Saints improve to 5-7-4 overall and 2-4-2 in the MAAC.
DiFilippo got the Saints on the scoreboard just before the half when he collected his own rebound in the box and chipped it over Manhattan goalkeeper John Ciano's head at the 35:59 mark. Ciano allowed all three scores in the contest.
Siena carried its 1-0 advantage into intermission. The Saints bombarded the Jaspers with 12 first half shots, and outshot Manhattan 19-13 over the contest.
Kevin Gluchowski broke loose for a pair of goals midway through the second half to give the Saints an extra cushion. The first score came with 64:23 on the clock when he accepted a feed from midfielder Sebastien Anzevui and headed it between the pipes.
Just over five minutes later, Gluchowski connected on a shot from 25 yards out thanks in part to an assist by senior co-captain Jason Laffin. The goal marked Gluchowski's third of the season.
Senior goalkeeper Kyle Christiansen tallied three saves to preserve his first shutout of the 2007 campaign. Christiansen earned the spot start in lieu of the ailing Steve Skonieczny.
The Saints return to action on Sunday at Saint Peter's for the final regular season contest of the year. Kick off is slated for 1 p.m.
