Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena women's swimming and diving team defeated the Sacred Heart Pioneers (3-3) this afternoon at the Siena Swim Center by a final score of 149-74. With the victory, the Saints (6-1) have now won six consecutive meets and matched their best start to a season since the 2002-03 squad also began 6-1. The Green and Gold won nine events on the afternoon, including a top score in the 1 meter dives for the first time this season. Siena concluded the meet by setting a pool record time of 8:10.82 in the 800 free relay.
"After a hard week of practice, the swims today were very impressive," remarked Head Coach Greg Brown.
Freshman standouts Brittany Pavolko (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) and Caitlyn Biagioli (Kings Park, N.Y./St. Anthony's) again paced the pool capturing first place times in both individual events in which they competed in, while combining to team up with Veronica Cimilluca (Monroe, N.Y./Washingtonville) and Allison O'Keefe (Southington, Conn./Saint Paul Catholic) in setting the 800 free relay pool record.
Additional Siena pool setters on the day included the team of Bridget Rowland, Meaghan Brauer, Megan Dobbins and Rachel McShane in the 200 medley relay (1:55.73), Bethany Fried in the 1650 free (18:32.23), Dobbins in the 50 free (:25.07) and Rowland in the 100 back (1:01.28).
Meanwhile, the Saints also captured their first diving competition victory of the season. Junior walk-on Jacky Busching (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) recorded the Saints highest 1 meter dive score of the year in winning the event with an overall total of 177.85.
"Jacky has come a long way in a short period of time," added Brown. "Her dives were outstanding today; I was impressed."
The Saints will conclude the 2007 portion of their schedule when they square of with Mount Saint Mary's and MAAC foe Loyola in a tri meet next Saturday in Baltimore. Meet time is set for 1 p.m.
