Siena Skates Past Fairfield

Dec. 7, 2007

Final Stats

Alex Franklin led four Siena players in double figures with 16 points and the Saints shot 56% from 3-point range in a 74-61 win at Fairfield Friday night. It was the MAAC opener for both schools. Siena hosts Iona at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

"I thought the key for us was our bench play," head coach Fran McCaffery said following the game. "That made a big difference in the first half when (our subs) went in and held the lead."

Siena made a season high 10 3-pointers (10-18), seven of which came before intermission. Reserve Tay Fisher went 3-3 from beyond the arc.

The Saints built a 24-8 lead in the first half and carried a 39-29 lead to the lockerroom. Fisher hit all three of his 3's in the first half.

Fairfield cut the lead to six, 41-35, on a Yorel Hawkins jumper with 16:45 to go and trailed 53-44 before the Saints put the game away with a 12-2 run midway through the half.

Franklin had a team-high seven rebounds to go along with his 16 points, falling three boards shy of his fifth consecutive double-double.

Kenny Hasbrouck had nine of his 14 points in the second half. Fisher ended with 11 and Edwin Ubiles had 10 to round out the double figure scorers for Siena. Ubiles and Hasbrouck have reached double figures in all seven games this season.

Hawkins led the Stags with 16 points. Herbie Allen came off the bench to convert 3-5 3-pointers on his way to 13 points. Greg Nero finished with 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds in a losing effort.

Siena shot 16-20 from the free throw line, which helped keep the lead comfortable in the final moments.

Freshman Clarence Jackson scored five points in his second appearance of the season. Jackson missed the first five games of the year with an ankle injury. Classmate Ryan Rossiter had three rebounds in 12 minutes as McCaffery utilized his bench as much as he has all year.

The Saints return to action Sunday when they host Iona at 2 p.m.
