POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) - James Smith and Jared Jordan each scored 24 points to lead Marist to a 98-88 overtime victory against Siena on Saturday, giving the Red Foxes their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season title.
Will Whittington added 23 points in a win that saw Marist (23-7, 14-4 MAAC) storm back from a 79-79 tie at the end of regulation to outscore Siena 19-9 in overtime.
With the victory, the Red Foxes clinched the top seed in the conference tournament and set the school mark for victories in a season.
The lead changed 15 times. Siena (18-11, 12-6) outscored Marist 43-41 in the second half and a Michael Haddix jumper tied the game with 34 seconds on the clock. Haddix led the Saints with 19 points and Kenny Hasbrouck added 16.
Marist had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Jordan missed a jumper at the buzzer.
Marist took 47 rebounds, Smith leading the way with 12, to 32 for the Saints.
