Final Stats
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena men's lacrosse team dropped its final regular-season game 10-6 at Providence (5-9, 5-3) this afternoon. The Friars used a game-high four goals from Michael Farley to serve the Saints their first league loss of the season. Siena (10-5, 7-1) attackman Ryan Duggan (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) led the team with three points.
The Saints jumped out to a two goal advantage as co-captains Kenny Mazzone (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and Matt Donovan (Northport, N.Y.) posted the first two scores. Providence answered with five consecutive goals to earn a 5-2 lead.
Siena rallied off back-to-back goals right before the half as they received the pair of scores from Duggan and then freshman midfielder Matt Leithead (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac). The Saints trailed 5-4 at the break.
Duggan registered his second goal of the contest at the 6:13 mark in the third quarter, however, that would be the closest the Saints would get. Providence exploded for five straight goals to take a commanding 10-5 edge.
Saints midfielder Shaun Dunn (Amityville, N.Y./Chaminade) managed his sole goal of the game with 2:08 left to play, but this proved to be too little too late.
Siena enters the 2007 MAAC Lacrosse Championships as the #1 seed. They are matched up with the #4 seeded Providence Friars in the first semifinal contest on Friday. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. in Emmitsburg, Md. The tournament will be held at Waldron Family Stadium on the campus of Mount Saint Mary's University.
