The Siena men's and women's golf teams won MAAC Championships this afternoon at the Magnolia Golf Course in Walt Disney World. It was the seventh straight title for the Siena women, while the Siena men won for the third time and second straight season. The Siena men will advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year. They will learn where they are headed on May 7.
The Siena men entered the day with a 2-stroke lead and fired a final-round 302 to finish with a three-day total of 895. Loyola College finished in second place with a final score of 903, while Niagara University took third place (910). Iona College (912) placed fourth, followed by Rider University (921), Canisius College (926), Fairfield University (929), Saint Peter's College (965) and Manhattan College (974).
Bryan Bigley tied for the individual low score with a 214, but lost a playoff to Loyola's Will Shriver who was awarded the McLeod Award, presented to the MAAC individual champion.
Dan Abbondandolo finished tied for fifth for the Saints with a 224 (+8) three day total.
The Siena women's team claimed its seventh straight title with a final score of 976. Runner-up Fairfield finished with a 1,029. Bridget Erwin of Siena won the McLeod Award with a three-day total of 238. Rounding out the top three, Melissa Agostinelli finished second (242) while Laura Woolgar (245) finished third.
The Championships were the second and third MAAC titles for a Siena sports team this season. The Siena volleyball team won the MAAC Championship this past fall.
