UHY Advisors, one of the nation's leading business advisory, consulting and accounting firms, and Siena College have forged a partnership that includes the renaming of the Alumni Recreation Center floor and additional promotional opportunities. The Siena women's basketball and volleyball teams will now play their home games on the UHY Court according to the terms of the agreement.
"Going back decades we have had a great run with Siena and its graduates," said Dick Kotlow, managing director of UHY Advisors' New York practice based in Albany. "Siena has turned out more professionals in our New York practice over the years than any other college accounting program."
In fact, one such graduate is Howard Foote, a 1974 alum, who is now a Siena Trustee. In addition to leading the firm's banking and public authorities practices, Foote serves as both chief financial officer and member of UHY Advisors NY, Inc.'s management committee. He is also based in Albany.
Kotlow said this is the first time his firm has ever undertaken such a novel approach in terms of naming rights of the UHY floor - either in NY or in other UHY Advisors' national offices.
"The UHY brand is internationally respected yet the company remains committed to the local communities they are a part of, and higher education as a whole," said Siena's director of athletics John D'Argenio. "We are proud to know that our association with UHY will benefit our student-athletes, alumni, and fans."
Dave Smith, Siena's Vice President for Development and External Affairs, noted that Siena and UHY Advisors, as well as their Siena alumni, have collaborated on many fronts, including scholarships and support of other fundraising efforts. "This new partnership is simply an extension of a long standing relationship that has spanned over seven decades and is only the latest chapter of creating a win-win collaboration between Siena and the community at large."
In addition to the naming of the ARC court, UHY Advisors will receive signage throughout the Marcelle Athletic Complex and exposure on the College's radio station, WVCR 88.3 FM. The firm will also receive logo placement on intramural collateral pieces and championship prizes.
The Alumni Recreation Center opened in 1974, two years before Siena upgraded its athletic department to Division I status. The facility has since served as the full-time home for Siena's volleyball and women's basketball teams.
The two programs have enjoyed tremendous success since Siena's move to the MAAC prior to the 1990-91 season. Combined, they have won 11 MAAC regular-season titles and seven MAAC Tournament Championships. Volleyball has made three trips to the NCAA Championships (1995, 2005 and 2006) and women's basketball appeared in the 2001 NCAA Tournament and the 1999, 2002 and 2003 Women's National Invitation Tournament.
Siena's men's basketball team called the ARC home until making its full-time move to the Times Union Center in 1997-98.
