Final Stats

Jeremy Deuel held top singles and Jay Godbole and Jose Loren each won their singles matches, but the Siena men's tennis still dropped a difficult 4-3 decision to visiting Sacred Heart in its home opener Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers won the crucial doubles point before splitting the singles competition to earn the win.

Deuel defeated Kirill Kasyahou 6-3, 2-6 and 6-4 at top singles. Godbole won his match 7-5 and 6-3 over Bryan Rodgers at #4 singles and Loren defeated Matt Cook 6-0 and 6-1 at sixth singles.

Michael Syer topped Siena's Nick Rutherford 6-2 and 6-3 at #2 singles, Nick Mazzerese won 6-1 and 6-3 over Stefan Putyera at #3 singles and Cole Conrad earned a 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4 decision over Kevin Gioia at #5 singles for Sacred Heart.

The Pioneers won at second and third doubles to secure the doubles point.

With the loss, Siena falls to 0-2 on the season. The Saints return to action Sunday Holy Cross.
